Villa Sigurtà: the history

The ancient Villa Sigurtà stands in Valeggio sul Mincio, in the province of Verona. Built in the 17th century, it was actually erected on a previous building from the 15th century. According to official documents, in fact, in 1407 the patrician Gerolamo Nicolò Contarini bought an agricultural property here. Contarini then began a series of works to ennoble the Brolo and the complex's main building. This led to the creation of the Park, the "Domus Magna" and the Barchesse, which are still visible today.

On the death of Contarini the Villa was sold to the Guarienti family, who remained the owners until 1616. During this period the area was divided into plots of land mainly for cultivation and hunting. However, the slow expansion of the Villa's park, much loved by the Guarienti family, and the embellishment of the main palace also began.

In 1616 the future Villa Sigurtà passed to the Maffei family. The Maffei family built a majestic residence in place of the previous Domus Magna, according to the project of the famous architect Vincenzo Pellesina. The Maffei family maintained possession of the Villa until 1836, when Marquis Antonio Maffei died.

The property thus passed to his daughter Anna, wife of Count Filippo Nuvoloni. From this moment on, a period rich in historical events began, of which Villa Sigurtà was often the setting. In 1859 it even hosted Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria and, later, Napoleon III of France

However, a slow decline of the complex also began, and in 1929 it was sold to Maria Paulon, wife of Cesare Sangiovanni. In 1941 the Villa was bought by the Sigurtà family, who began an extensive restoration. Thanks to their passion, Villa Sigurtà is today one of the most beautiful and appreciated historical residences in the Veneto region.

Villa Sigurtà: the perfect setting for a princely wedding

As we have already mentioned, Villa Sigurtà has been the setting for events of great historical importance, hosting illustrious figures. After careful restoration work begun in the post-war period, the complex is now a bucolic, fairytale setting. Precisely for this reason, the Villa is the perfect location to organise fairytale weddings.

What makes the complex so romantic is the vast park surrounding it. It is a true green lung for Valeggio, dotted with centuries-old trees and heavenly corners. It will be the perfect setting for your most refined outdoor receptions on hot summer days. Under the foliage of the trees you can also organise suggestive photo shoots.

Would you like to celebrate an emotional civil ceremony? Also, in this case, the Villa staff can set up different outdoor areas for the event. The most sought-after is certainly the one adjacent to the majestic Maffei Nymphaeum, where you can exchange your sweet promises

The interiors of Villa Sigurtà offer equally strong emotions. The large halls at your disposal are elegant without being gaudy. These are exclusive settings in which to serve refined wedding banquets. You can choose the one that best suits your style, from the most luxurious in neoclassical style to the simplest, typical of the Venetian villas.

Villa Sigurtà is truly a dream location in which to spend unforgettable moments with your loved ones. A fairytale place that will leave an indelible memory in the hearts of those who stay there.

Villa Sigurtà: the structure of the location

The historic Villa Sigurtà stands on the banks of the gentle Mincio River, surrounded by its huge park. This vast green expanse occupies over 60 hectares and is rich in century-old trees, rare plants, statues and small buildings. It includes the Labyrinth, the Hermitage, the Small Castle and the Votive Grotto.

As you approach the complex, you reach the well-kept English garden in front of the entrance to the Villa. Ideal for outdoor events, the latter is home to a very rare Ginkgo Biloba. A path also leads to the Maffei Nymphaeum. This is a charming amphitheatre with a large swimming pool, fountains, waterfalls and tropical aquatic plants.

The main building of Villa Sigurtà, in neoclassical style, is a little gem. The beautiful façade features a majestic three-bay loggia, which enchants visitors. Entering through the refined windows overlooking the garden, one enters the structure's Salons. In a state of perfect preservation, the large rooms are available to organise weddings and events. Among these the most important are:

  • the Ambassadors' Lounge
  • the Emperor Franz Joseph I Hall
  • the Hunting Room
  • the Tea Room
  • the Hall of the Fans

Each of the Salons, many of which are interconnecting, is carefully decorated. They are all richly decorated with frescoes, each with its own special features. Stuccoes, carpets, heirlooms, and period furniture enhance the rooms and give them character and refinement.

At the rear of the Villa is the Piazza delle Armi, a tiled outdoor area overlooking the beautiful park. Villa Sigurtà is a truly marvellous and perfectly preserved residence, in which visitors will be instantly transported to a bygone era.

In addition to being a wedding photographer, I am a husband (lucky!) and a dad (super lucky!).

I love happy tail wags and purring in the evening twilight, which is why we also have two beautiful furries in our family, Octavia and Nova.
I love the smell of the woods where everything is so wild, where you can reconnect deeply with nature. In the same way, I love the only means that allows you to stay firmly connected to the world around you, the motorbike.

My wife Giulia and I travelled across Europe to the North Cape, where we left a piece of our hearts.
