Set in the foothills of the Dolomites, Castello di Zumelle gave Anna and Andrea’s wedding a setting with a strong medieval identity. Its stone walls, deep rock-cut moat and 36-metre tower define a fortress overlooking the wooded landscape of the Belluno area.
Anna wore an elegant sleeveless gown with a clean bodice, a softly flowing skirt and a delicate embellished belt defining the waist. The deep open back was completed by a fine jewellery detail, while the long veil added movement and lightness to the understated silhouette.
The ceremony, reception and couple portraits all took place at the castle, allowing me to photograph the day as one uninterrupted story. Through my wedding reportage approach, I followed the changes in atmosphere from the ceremony to the celebrations, concentrating on expressions, interactions and brief moments rather than directing each scene.
For Anna and Andrea’s portraits, the elevated position of the castle became especially striking as the sun began to fall behind the wooded hills. I used the warm backlight and the scenery of the Dolomite foothills to frame their closeness, connecting the couple with the landscape surrounding Zumelle.
