For Silvia and Nicanor’s engagement shoot, we walked through Bassano del Grappa without following a rigid route. I wanted the session to feel more like time spent together than a traditional photoshoot, leaving them free to talk, walk and interact while I photographed what happened naturally.
A pre-wedding session is also a useful opportunity to become familiar with both the wedding photographer and the camera before the wedding day. After the first few photographs, the presence of the lens becomes less noticeable and gestures, smiles and expressions begin to feel increasingly spontaneous.
Bassano del Grappa offered us a varied backdrop, from the old town walls and views towards the surrounding mountains to the Brenta River and the famous Ponte Vecchio. Designed by Andrea Palladio, the wooden bridge is the best-known landmark of the city and one of its most recognisable views.
I followed Silvia and Nicanor as they crossed the historic centre and the bridge, concentrating on their connection rather than on formal poses. The result is a simple and personal pre-wedding reportage, designed to help the couple feel more comfortable in front of the camera before their wedding day.
