For Giulia and Lorenzo’s engagement shoot, we chose Lio Piccolo, a quiet landscape in the northern Venice Lagoon. Away from the busiest parts of Venice, we simply walked along the country paths and beside the water, giving the session a slow rhythm and plenty of space for them to be together.
A pre-wedding shoot is also an opportunity to become comfortable with the wedding photographer before the wedding day. Instead of concentrating on poses, Giulia and Lorenzo could talk, walk and enjoy the surroundings while I photographed the gestures and expressions that emerged naturally between them.
Lio Piccolo is a small historic village within Cavallino-Treporti, surrounded by the distinctive environment of the northern Venice Lagoon. Rural courtyards, lagoon waters, fishing valleys and narrow roads form a landscape where farming and fishing traditions are still strongly visible.
I approached the session with the same discreet style I bring to wedding reportage, intervening only when useful and letting Giulia and Lorenzo set the pace. The lagoon became a subtle part of the photographs rather than just a backdrop, helping create a personal pre-wedding story connected to one of the quieter sides of Venice.
