For Nicole and Marius’s engagement shoot, we chose Domaso on the western shore of Lake Como. The lake, the mountains rising behind it and the stone lanes of the village gave us very different settings within a short walk, allowing the session to develop naturally without following a fixed sequence of photographs.
A pre-wedding session is a chance to spend some time together before the wedding while becoming familiar with both the wedding photographer and the camera. Walking, talking and sharing ordinary moments gradually makes the presence of the lens less noticeable, which helps create more relaxed photographs when the wedding day arrives.
Part of the session also included their little one, making the photographs more personal and turning the engagement shoot into a small record of this moment in their family life. Against the wide views of Lake Como, I preferred simple interactions and movement rather than formal poses.
My approach remained close to wedding reportage throughout the session: I observed Nicole and Marius as they walked through Domaso, embraced and spent time together by the lake. Lake Como provides a remarkable backdrop, but the photographs remain centred on their connection and the way they naturally relate to each other.
