Wedding at Castello di San Pelagio

The Castello di San Pelagio venue is one of the facilities I most appreciated during my experience as a wedding photographer in Padua. I have gathered all the most important information to help you better understand the history, the structure, and answer the most frequently asked questions about the villa. Enjoy!

Castello di San Pelagio: The History

In addition to being a splendid wedding venue in Padua, Castello di San Pelagio is a place rich in history that you will breathe in from the moment you arrive. Upon arriving at the gate, you will be greeted by the charming crenellated tower, of clear medieval origins, and by a small airplane parked in front of the entrance. The reason for this particular choice will become obvious after discovering the history of San Pelagio.

In the fourteenth century, the estate was inhabited by the lords of Padua, the Da Carrara family, to whom we owe the tower erected to defend against attacks from the Scaligeri of Verona, with whom relations were strained. But the current appearance of the Castello di San Pelagio is instead due to the Zaborra counts, who purchased the estate in 1752 and dedicated themselves to restoration and expansion work. In fact, it is to them that we owe the elegant barchesse and the manor wing, which became the family residence.

But the destiny of San Pelagio was fulfilled during World War II, when the counts made their property available to the newly formed Italian military air force, which established one of its bases here. In 1917, therefore, the estate was traversed by an incessant coming and going of aircraft heading toward nearby Austria to fight the war from the sky, as well as bustling with ground personnel who, in the castle's halls, made parachutes and the canvas that covered the aircraft wings.

And it is also from this property that the poet and soldier Gabriele d'Annunzio departed for what was called "the mad flight," with which he flew over Vienna to flood it with leaflets asking the Austrian people to surrender. And today the memory of those days is the true added value of Castello di San Pelagio, which will make your wedding unforgettable.

Castello di San Pelagio: Setting and Wedding Mood

A wedding at Castello di San Pelagio can be read through atmosphere, movement and relationships: the venue gives the celebration a recognizable frame without taking attention away from the people.

A castle setting is useful photographically because it offers scale and intimacy at the same time: the venue is present, but the human story remains central. Its position in Veneto adds a territorial reference to the visual story without making the images feel generic.

Castello di San Pelagio: The Structure

If you were looking for a wedding venue in Padua where times past echo, you have found it.

The Giardino di Rappresentanza will be the first place at Castello di San Pelagio where you can welcome your guests, both for greetings and for an elegant welcome drink. This portion of the park has always been the castle's main garden, and for this reason it has been embellished with a pool full of water lilies and four flower beds where roses bloom from March to September.

The elegant barchessa overlooking the garden can become the perfect setting for either serving a buffet appetizer or a plated dinner. Your guests will be amazed to dine under a large frescoed vault on which ancient hot air balloons stand out, floating in mid-air.

Furthermore, in this refined wedding venue in Padua it is possible to celebrate your wedding: wouldn't it be romantic to get married in the ballroom, along the avenue of centuries-old hornbeams, or in the beautiful center of a lake surrounded by greenery?

And for the wedding photo shoot, you will certainly have no problem finding the right setting to capture your memories: some shots in the park's labyrinth or near the rose garden will allow you to take home exciting and evocative wedding photos.
