La Casa dei Racconti: The History
La Casa dei Racconti is an elegant relais located in Ceggia, province of Venice. This property is situated just north of the ancient Via Annia, a Roman road that connected Aquileia to southern Veneto. The history of the complex has Renaissance origins.
This area, originally marshy, was reclaimed in the 15th century, enabling new development. In 1569, a convent was built near the current location of the Casa, later demolished in 1793 by the Republic of Venice. Some parts of it were used in the construction of the future Casa dei Racconti, which was first registered in 1842.
The Casa then passed through various ownerships, including possession by the Papadopoli family until 1921. Subsequently, the lands were acquired by Giovanni Giol, a descendant of emigrants who had made their fortune in Argentina. In 1966, La Casa dei Racconti passed to the Rubinato family and, later, to the Borga family. In 2013, the current owner, Gianni Pasin, acquired the estate and renamed it "Casa dei Racconti".
An exceptional resident of the Casa was Giannino Zanatta, who lived there until the age of eleven in 1958. During World War II, the Zanatta family hid two Allied soldiers for a year. This act of courage earned them official recognition in 2001. Today, La Casa dei Racconti is a special and fascinating location, rich in history, deep roots, and unique memories. Transformed into a luxurious relais, it also hosts events and weddings within its walls.
