Villa Locatelli: History

Villa Locatelli is a historic 18th-century mansion built in Cormons - Tenuta di Angoris, in the gentle countryside of Gorizia.  According to official sources, the structure was in fact built in 1735 and has been owned by Baron Giorgio Locatelli since 1811. He chose the mansion as his holiday home, transforming it into a huge mansion during the 19th century. During this period, the villa was raised by one storey and structurally modified. A small church dedicated to St Cecilia was also built, which is still consecrated today.

Like many other complexes in the area, Villa Locatelli also suffered extensive damage during the world wars. After each war, it was subjected to careful restoration, thanks to the perfectly preserved structure. In particular, with the outbreak of World War I, the property was seized and made available to the Italian Army. This used it as a military hospital, obviously causing extensive damage to the complex.

In 1937, Villa Locatelli passed first to Max Orefice and, after two years, to the brothers Giuseppe, Luigi and Orlando Miani. The latter founded here the Società Anonima Trasformazioni Conduzioni Agricole, better known as SARCA. Further restoration work on Villa Locatelli was also commissioned in this period from the famous Roman architect Tullio Rossi.

Villa Locatelli: the structure of the location

Villa Locatelli is an elegant building whose façade is embellished with thick, verdant climbing ivy. Located within the Angoris Estate, the structure is surrounded by a vast grove and the rich vineyards of the area. The town is in fact famous for its wine production, which can also be tasted in Villa Locatelli.

On entering the complex, visitors walk along a long tree-lined avenue, from which they can admire numerous centuries-old cypresses. Walking up along the park of the Villa, one then reaches the various buildings that make it up. Besides the main body, with its characteristic horseshoe shape, there is a splendid consecrated chapel. Inside, it is still possible to get married according to the religious rite, for a perfect traditional wedding.

Passing through the Italian garden, marquees and a graceful portico, one enters the mansion's interior. This presents an infinity of halls and rooms, arranged on no less than three floors. The rooms are all elegant, well-kept and full of precious period furnishings that have been perfectly preserved.

The Central Hall is certainly the most popular space for events, accommodating up to 80 people. The Dining Room, famous for its beautiful blown-glass chandeliers, is recommended for more intimate weddings. Also at your disposal are the library and billiard room, where time seems to stand still.
