Villa Spessa: a history of over 500 years
Villa Spessa is a historic residence dating back to the late 15th century. In the gentle Venetian countryside, it stands in Carmignano di Brenta, between Padua and Vicenza. The Villa was built by Giovanni Andrea da Quinto, a Venetian merchant, on the ruins of a 13th century castle. Giovanni Andrea had bought the land in this area intending to use it to raise sheep. The area was irrigated by watercourses and had large pastures suitable for sheep farming. Therefore, the merchant wanted to build the Villa to create a base near his pastures to coordinate the processing and trade of wool. Like most Venetian villas, it was initially a structure intended for economic rather than leisure functions.
In 1520 the Villa passed into the hands of the Grimani, a family of patricians, who kept possession of it until the 18th century. From 1748 the residence was managed by the Manin family. The Manin family began the work of enlargement and ennoblement, so much so that it attracted the attention of the Corner family, rich Venetian patricians. From this moment onwards the ownership of the Villa changed several times. After being purchased by the Corners in 1748, it passed to the Vancenati in 1798. The latter sold it to the Cerato family in 1809, who kept it until 1884. It was then sold to the Camerini family, who decided to leave the Villa in 1934, breaking it up among several buyers. The last and current owners, members of the Sartore family, began renovation work in 2010 to restore the Villa to its original splendour.

Villa Spessa has a similar structure to other famous Venetian villas in the area. It will be perfect for hosting large events and celebrations given its large size.
